How the dates are set

  • Fixed dates: New Year's Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. When one falls on a weekend, the holiday is observed on the next weekday.
  • Mondays: National Heroes Day (4th Monday of January), Emancipation Day (1st Monday of May), Discovery Day (3rd Monday of May), Constitution Day (1st Monday of July), Remembrance Day (2nd Monday of November) and the King's Birthday (a Monday in June).
  • Easter-based: Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and Easter Monday move every year.
  • One-off: the government can add a holiday, as it did for the general election on 30 April 2025.

Holidays and your tax deadline

If you rent accommodation to visitors, the Tourist Accommodation Tax return for each month is due by the 28th of the next month. When the 28th - or the days just before it - is a public holiday or a weekend, the deadline moves to the business day before. That is why Boxing Day and Christmas often pull the November deadline into the week before Christmas.

The deadlines calendar lists every adjusted date, and the Tourist Accommodation Tax guide explains the rules.
